Important Updates
1. Time to Unpack — Moving Updates!

It's happened, it's done, UMSU has moved! Now comes the next big task – unpacking!

Staff are encouraged to come onsite this week, check out the new digs, and start to settle in. There's plenty of unpacking to do, and ways to help UMSU acclimate to new life in 168. This includes not just unpacking but identifying and reporting any issues/defects in the building, drafting your furnishing and decor wishlists, and making those furniture adjustments so everything is *just* right. Remember, the building is open to students next Monday 17 October!

2. Access to Building 168 — Doors and Getting Here

While the final construction works are being completed, access to Building 168 is a little tricky. For the time being, the best way into 168 is through the Level 1 Arts & Cultural Building link bridge. More of a visual person? Check out this handy entry point map.

If you're having issues with your swipe card not opening doors you believe you should have access to, please email Ciara so this can be amended ASAP.

3. Building Defects — Reporting Issues

There will be a lot of teething issues in the next few weeks, and we will likely find some issues around that need fixing. Please use the form below to submit any defect notices. Please fill in the form as best possible, ensuring you attach photos clearly showing the defect and its location. This is not for significant architectural changes or new furniture requests, more so if your desk is not working, or there's chipped paint or construction debris left around - anything that a builder can come in and fix.

Please don't hesitate to reporteven if you're sure you're the fifth person to see it! Better to have it reported than not.

The form is located HERE.

4. Extra Furnishings/Refurbishments — Start Those Wishlists!

At a Special Meeting of Council last Friday 7 October, members of Council endorsed the reallocation of unspent Departmental funds into Whole of Union, for the purposes of relocation/refurbishment costs.

While details are still being finalised regarding the ordering process for new furnishings, we are now in the exciting position that staff and OBs can start building up their wishlists for their offices and spaces! So get your Block on, build those Pinterest boards, and start planning! ‍

6. PC Registration — New PCs Arriving

To avoid future logistical headaches, please register your new PC with UMSU against your name online once it arrives. You can also find this link on the "Handy Links" page under HR Resources on the Intranet.

This will help us ensure machines are kept track of by UniMelb and timely replacements can be organised when their date cycle ends. IMPORTANT: If you are receiving a device on behalf of another user (e.g. an OB or a device intended for a hotdesk) ensure you register the device and not the user who will end up with it.

7. UMSU Planning Calendar — Don't forget to check for clashes!

Just a reminder that we have a shared calendar to help with planning ahead as a whole organisation. This is not a calendar for promoting your event – it is an organisation-wide planning tool to help you plan events well in advance (think semester planning). The calendar will help prevent your events from competing or conflicting with other activities within the organisation. Find out how to check and add items to the calendar here.

8. UMSU Arts Programs — Officially opened!

The new Arts and Cultural Building, home to UMSU’s Arts Programs and Union House Theatre department, was officially opened by the University on Wednesday 28 September.

The A&C Building will be where you can catch all the action of UHT’s programs, beautiful rehearsal rooms, a set construction workshop, the Arts Lab, George Paton Gallery and two new venues which replace the old Union and Guild theatre. And of course – our UMSU Arts and Culture offices. Below are some images of student performances that showcase the inside and outside of the building and theatres.
