Remember when two were one.

Remember, everything is gradual—

You’ll never notice anything change.

You’ll never notice anything.

I’ll write that to my son

In a birthday card someday.

Smoke lingers after a cigarette burns out,

And oceans love salt—

Otherwise, it’s a lake with dreams.

Show me blue sky without smoke.

Show me dreams with two candles

And a red velvet cake

That lingers on knives.

The whole of something

Is never more than its parts,

But a cake eaten is better than left stale

A year passed is worth more than one paused.

A dream of night is better than nightfall,

And the sun burns—not with you,

But for you.

In wrapping paper, a blade, stained red

A bow, a card.

It’s all for you.

Watch the sunset and let it sit

Like shiraz on the lip of a glass.

Everything is gradual—

You’ll never notice anything.

Death is warm,

But only love can ignite you.

Remember when two candles were one.

When night falls, the sun still burns.

Remember,

You’ll never notice anything.
