Applications are now open for the 2026 Winter Arts Lab Residency!

Applications are now open for the 2026 Winter Arts Lab Residency. This residency opportunity prioritises low-pressure making, speculative research, experimentation, in-progress/unfinished ideas. The residency takes place in our dedicated making space, the Arts Lab, between 5 June and 3 July. It provides access to facilities and materials for creative experimentation and practice. Although the residency is self-directed, support is provided by the Arts Programs team.

WHERE: Arts Lab, Level 1, Building 19, Arts & Cultural, Parkville Campus

Please ensure you read the below criteria before applying.

Access to the Arts Lab is only possible Monday to Friday, 9-5.

Applicants must be students at the University of Melbourne. 

Applications that engage with collaborative ways of making are strongly encouraged. 

The residency provides:

A large workspace, with four tables. 

Pinboards and wall space for process-based display.

Access to materials (paper, mark making materials, textiles, projector, printer).

Please note: 

This is a dry studio environment: no oils, solvents, spray paint, aerosols, flammable materials, or heat-based processes are permitted

No access to machinery or fabrication tools is available, or permissible

Storage is minimal – artists are expected to keep materials tidy between sessions

The studio is self-directed: participants manage their own time, materials, and workspace in a respectful shared environment

On occassion, the space might be shared with Arts Programs staff for one-off actions/workshops, notice will be provided
