Call for workshop proposals for Semester 1, 2025.

Closes midnight, Sunday 15 December

APPLY HERE

The Arts Lab is calling for workshop proposals for Semester One, 2025.

Are you an artist, arts professional or creative practitioner wanting to share your skills with university students? Are you an UMSU Club wanting to deliver a creative or artistic workshop? Apply now with your workshop idea for the Arts Lab in 2025.

The Arts Lab is a purpose-built space for creative making, conversation and workshops, with materials and space dedicated to skills-sharing and artistic development. We are seeking workshop proposals for experimental, pedagogic, creative activity – this might be a one-off masterclass exploring timely and relevant contemporary theory, a workshop that explores creative making, experimental writing, or digital media. We particularly encourage proposals that are interactive, and push the boundaries of what a workshop might be!

Practical details

We are seeking proposals for one two-hour workshop, to take place in the Arts Lab on a weekday during Semester One for a maximum of 20 students.

We encourage you to reach out to talk about your ideas. You can contact Chantelle Mitchell, Arts Programs Officer, at chantelle.mitchell@union.unimelb.edu.au with any questions, or to make a time to discuss! We are happy to provide feedback on draft proposals and offer support throughout the application process. We also encourage creative responses to the idea of what a workshop might be.

Examples of past workshops can be found here, but if your proposal might be for a unique workshop format, we would love to discuss this with you!

Assessment
Your proposal will be assessed by the Arts Programs team. Applications will be selected through the following criteria:

  1. Clarity of vision and feasibility – Is the project well-conceived, with a clear vision that can be practically realized within the gallery space? Are the logistics and timeline realistic for a successful exhibition?

  1. Student context – Has the proposal articulated a value for or a relevance to students? This might be a specific student cohort, or perhaps the proposal recognises broad value to student audiences.

  1. Relevance and connection to contemporary issues – Does your project engage with current cultural, social, or creative conversations? Does it engage with contemporary practice in an interesting or exciting way?
