George Paton Gallery and Union House Theatre present Resonance, a two-part sound workshop hosted by Nina Buchanan, Naarm based electronic musician and composer.

Participants in these workshops will be introduced to the expansive possibilities of sound through creative and conceptual strategies for sound-making and composition. With Nina’s insights and guidance, participants will be introduced to the emotional and experiential capacities of sound, while developing practical technical skills using audio tools and equipment.

These workshops will develop skills and open pathways to sound designing for performance, videos, podcasts, sound sculpture, installations, and more. No prior experience with sound required.

A free workshop for University of Melbourne students.

Nina Buchanan is a musician and composer working predominantly with electronic music and experimental sonic techniques. Emerging out of the Eora/Sydney and Naarm/Melbourne underground and experimental music scenes, her work creates rich emotional landscapes, oscillating between the ecstatic and the melancholic. As a composer Nina has worked across theatre, film, TV, gallery and site specific installation, and various digital formats. Recent work includes score and sound design for 8 hour epic, 888: REST for Rising Festival, installation work Body Scanner at ACCA, Class Act by Aphids, Set Piece by Nat Randall and Anna Breckon, and Mass Movement with Latai Taumoepeau. Recent performances include Vivid Festival with Trackwork and Sumac labels, Liquid Architecture, Phoenix Central Park and her first show in NYC.  Nina has released two EPs and an album, Restless Abandon, and recently undertook a residency at Stockholm’s EMS studios researching the Buchla 200 modular synthesizer.
