11 November 2026 – 12 February, 2027
Opening celebration: Thursday 19 November, 5-7pm

George Paton Gallery, Project Space
Level 3, Arts and Cultural Building (159)

Presenting a series of recent works, this show focuses on the artist’s expanded ideas of artistic ‘fieldwork’. Rather than solely relying on the present and the tangible, the process of making these works draws from archives, memories, imagined pasts and futures, inconsistencies, contradictions and tangents. Using site photography as a launching point, each subsequent fragment is a site of contemplation and generation. As the first of two outcomes, this one is about looking back – while the next will be about looking forwards.

What does a place become when you forget how you got there? What is created when human nature supersedes objective truth?

Immersed in human, environmental and scientific structures I find the most value in the margins. The things observed while walking-between.

Without these structures would I know that I lie outside them?

The works in this show were made while as the artist-in-residence at the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in the last 6 months of 2026. This exhibition is the first outcome of this residency, with the second to be presented as a seminar in early 2027.

Elliot Wallace Brown lives and works on the unceded lands of the Kulin Nation. Their artistic practice is a convenient place for schools of thought to converge, conversate and share outcomes. Grounded in ecological thinking, Elliot’s work explores the ways which we observe the greater whole around us and how we see ourselves within it.
