My name is Lushy Chinganya, I’m your UMSU President for 2026. I’m a third-year Biomedicine student. If this is your first semester here, welcome! If you’re returning, welcome back!

At UMSU, we’re kicking off 2026 with a focus on what really matters to students!

As your new UMSU President, it’s an honour to represent students across all campuses and to work towards making university life more accessible, safe, and empowering for everyone. I’m passionate about ensuring everyone has a place they feel they belong to on campus.

This upcoming year, our focus is on three key areas: accessibility, student safety, and student voice. From improving essential resources and campus facilities, to advocating for stronger protections against gender-based violence, racism, sexism, queerphobia and ableism. I’m fighting for student representation at the center of decision-making, and I’m committed to delivering meaningful change across the university. This includes in the classroom, at events and in colleges or university accommodation.

So, here’s to a year of collaboration, connection, and real impact for all University of Melbourne students!

If you see me around, come say hi!
