The century-old Music Students’ Society (MSS) is the official student club of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (formerly known as the Faculty of Music), providing social activities for members, and educational (and moral) support for students. Its membership base is mostly undergraduate music students doing different specialisations in the MCM (including Composition, Interactive Composition, Jazz & Improvisation, Music Studies, Musicology & Ethnomusicology, Performance, and many more), but anybody from any faculty or study level is welcome to join! The MSS is a perfect opportunity for students from all degrees to meet new band members, teachers, composers, music theorists and performers… or just share their love of music and socialise with like-minded people.
The MSS hosts events such as Q&A sessions with the director of the Conservatorium, Richard Kurth, and music theory seminars. Our major social event is the Southbank Ball in the second semester, which is discounted for members. We also support students through orientation, so feel free to reach out!
We are also always on the lookout for potential future committee members and leaders, so please scroll down and fill in the application form if you are interested!

The MSS is looking to recruit a number of diligent individuals to partake in the organisation of upcoming MSS events. Undertaking a role in the MSS general committee and specialised committies would provide valuable experience in whatever role you'd be interested in. Successful candidates will be required to sit a short casual interview via zoom or in person to discuss what they are looking to achieve as part of the MSS.
These are the current teams being formulated:
