Shonar Bangladesh is a first of its kind cultural experience that brings together the colours, traditions, flavours, music, and spirit of Bangladesh under one roof in the heart of Melbourne.
Hosted at the iconic South Lawn of the University of Melbourne, the event is designed to celebrate the richness and diversity of Bangladeshi heritage while creating a vibrant space for cultural exchange, community engagement, and unforgettable experiences. More than just a festival, Shonar Bangladesh is a large scale celebration of identity, nostalgia, and unity.
From the bustling streets of Old Dhaka to the tea gardens of Sylhet, from the traditions of Chittagong to the culture of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Barisal, Khulna, and Mymensingh, the event showcases the unique beauty of every region of Bangladesh. The festival also proudly highlights the cultures and contributions of indigenous and minority communities, reflecting the true diversity of the nation.
The food experience stands at the centre of the celebration, featuring iconic Bangladeshi dishes and regional specialties including mejban goru mangsho, Dhakaiya chaap, Sylheti shutki, traditional pithas, street foods, desserts, and more.
With an expected audience of over 300 attendees consisting of university students, families, professionals, multicultural communities, and members of the wider Melbourne public, Shonar Bangladesh aims to become one of the largest and most impactful Bangladeshi cultural events in Victoria.
Organised by the Melbourne University Bangladeshi Student Society, one of the most active and followed Bangladeshi student organisations in Australia, the event seeks to strengthen cultural pride, build community connections, and introduce the beauty of Bangladesh to a broader audience in an engaging and modern way.
Shonar Bangladesh is where culture meets celebration, tradition meets youth, and Bangladesh comes alive in Melbourne.
