Annoyed by her baby brother, Toby, and saddled with the responsibility of babysitting him, Sarah Williams absent-mindedly wishes her brother away only for him to really disappear. Envoked from Sarah's book, Goblins have taken Toby. Transported to the goblin's fantasy land by the Goblin King Jareth, Sarah is given 13 hours to navigate the titular labyrinth's tricks, riddles, and strange inhabitants before Toby is lost to the goblins forever.
Labyrinth was conceived and directed by Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets and Sesame street, with puppets from his own Creature Shop. Henson's creative influence is aided with a screenplay penned by Monty Python's Terry Jones, and David Bowie writing and performing several songs alongside playing the role of Jareth. While initially critically unsuccesful, Labyrinth has gained a lasting legacy as a cult classic thanks to its its creative, charming. and at times surreal performances, spirit, and aesthetics.
