We are excited to announce the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) club at the University of Melbourne. We urge all Unimelb students to come along and help reaffiliate the only genuine anti-war, socialist club on campus.

The meeting will discuss the campaign to free 27-year-old Ukrainian socialist Bogdan Syrotiuk, sentenced to 15 years in prison for his opposition to the US-NATO war against Russia. Bogdan was ruled guilty of “high treason” on the sole evidence of six articles urging Ukrainian and Russian workers to unite against the war. The Ukrainian state has denounced Bogdan -- a member of the IYSSE, a Trotskyist, and an internationalist -- as a “Russian agent,” despite his writings making explicit his opposition to both the Putin regime’s reactionary invasion and NATO’s imperialist operations.
The meeting will also link Bogdan's defence to the broader fight against imperialist barbarism, including the Gaza genocide, the war on Iran, and the US-led drive towards war with China. Australian imperialism under the Labor government of Anthony Albanese is preparing to play a key role in this conflict. All of these conflicts must be seen as connected elements of an emerging world war.
The IYSSE insists that the only answer to the danger of a third world war is the international unity of workers against the capitalist system that is the source of war—the perspective for which Bogdan was imprisoned.
Come along to our meeting and learn how you can become involved in the fight against war and for socialism!
