Bureaumancer Sessions: a writing workshop with Diego Ramírez

It shows how Ramírez developed a narrative arch based on the Marseilles' IV of Swords for his novel Bureausis. Encouraging the use of chance as means to undermine bureaucratic logics, we will look at various examples of de Marseilles in novelistic writing, including Italo Calvino's The Castle of Crossed Destinies (1973), Francis McKee's Even The Dead Rise Up (2017) and David Maroto's The Fantasy Of The Novel (2019).
Bureausis is a novel within an installation at ACCA's NEW26 (2026) curated by Shelley McSpedden and Sophie Prince.

Diego Ramírez is an artist with dreams, a writer with hopes and a facilitator with beliefs. He trained with New York based Tarot de Marseilles reader Enrique Enríquez on his tarological method. Ramírez has shown locally at ACMI in partnership with ACCA, NGV, Gertrude Glasshouse, Westspace, Sydney Contemporary, Blakdot and internationally at Deslave (Mexico), Human Resources (US), Torrance Art Museum (US), Art Central (HK), and Careof (IT). He has curated at Gertrude Contemporary, Seventh Gallery and Dogmilk Films. Ramírez has written locally for Art Gallery of Western Australia, Art and Australia, Disclaimer, MEMO, un Projects and internationally with NECSUS (NL) and BLUE journal (US x FR). He was the director of Seventh Gallery (2018-2023) and sat many assessment panels for local, state and federal funding bodies. He is represented by MARS Gallery.
