What do you do when a supervisor makes an inappropriate comment? How do you respond when your ideas are repeatedly overlooked? And what can you do when you witness someone else experiencing harassment or discrimination?
Join Amnesty International Unimelb × Women in Science & Engineering for an interactive, practical workshop exploring gender bias, discrimination, harassment and power imbalances in STEM workplaces, labs, internships and research teams.
Through realistic STEM-specific scenarios, you’ll work through how to speak up safely, support others, document concerns, escalate issues and intervene as a bystander without taking away the agency of the person affected.
Rather than simply discussing workplace rights and gender equality, this workshop focuses on what you can actually say and do when difficult situations happen. With Amnesty bringing a human-rights and women’s-rights perspective and WiSE bringing STEM-specific insight, this is an opportunity to build practical skills and confidence for navigating challenging situations in your future workplace.
Light refreshments will be provided.
