Get Involved

About us

Union House Theatre (UHT) runs an epic theatre and performance program for all students at the University of Melbourne.

We program plays, musicals, dance, comedy, masterclasses and events.

We have five staff members and support student theatre in two performance venues in the Arts & Cultural Building - the Union Theatre and the Guild Theatre.

We support students to be performers, playwrights, technicians, backstage crew, designers, directors, producers, choreographers + more!

Student Theatre Groups

Student theatre groups are exactly what they sound like – groups of students who produce and perform their own shows. We welcome ALL types of performance! We have over 20 affiliated student theatre groups. You can find one you’d like to join in the list of theatre groups or you can start your own group.

Find out what’s going on

The best way to get involved is to be proactive and find out what is happening in the theatre program that interests you. Auditions and production crew callouts are listed in our enews. You can also try directly contacting the students running a production and ask if you can join their team.

There are many different ways to keep up to date with the theatre opportunities on campus:
1. Come into the theatre office and say hello! (Level 3, Arts & Cultural Building, go past the pink toilets and through the fire door)
2. Sign up to our weekly enews ‘Followspot’
3. Browse the UHT Program and the Events and Workshops
4. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram
5. Join the student theatre Facebook group

Learn new skills and meet people

If you haven’t done theatre before, don’t stress, we are here to help. We cater for all skill levels in our masterclasses and they are free! – the most important thing is that you are keen.
You can also volunteer for a production team role with a student theatre group and learn as you go – we are here to support you along the way.

Everyone is welcome!

We don’t care what you are studying or whether you are a first year, second year or doing your PhD – don’t be shy!
There is no joining fee to be a part of Union House Theatre.
Some of our student theatre groups may require you to pay a small joining fee but that is up to the individual group.
