TASTINGS: TOGETHER

TASTINGS: TOGETHER is a thrilling display of talent and unity within the wider University community. The event showcases the strength of unity through the mediums of energetic performances, photography, short films, and theatre.

 

TASTINGS THEATRE PROGRAM  

The Tastings Theatre Season is a joint initiative of UMSU’s Creative Arts Department and Union House Theatre (UHT). Sharing in the planning and presentation of the event, Creative Arts and UHT are working together on Tastings for presentation in Week 5 in the Guild Theatre.

There is no fee to be part of Tastings Theatre Program.

KEY DATES

  • TASTINGS: TOGETHER 2024 EOI submissions are open from 27 May 2024
  • ​Deadline for submissions is 1 July 2024 (at 11:59pm) AEDT.
  • Successful participants notified week commencing 8th July.
  • Rehearsals commence in your own time.
  • Showings season on Week 5 Semester 2 from (19-24 August 2024).

ELIGIBILITY

  • Only University of Melbourne students may enter. This condition applies to all members of group entry.
  • Shows will be between 5 – 10 mins in duration.
  • Shows must be original and produced in 2024.
  • Shows can be of any type; we want to include as many forms of stage performance as possible. This might include theatre, dance, poetry, physical theatre, comedy, clowning and more!

AS AN ARTIST YOU AGREE TO

  • Work with UMSU Creative Arts team and UHT, the season will be performed in the Guild Theatre.
  • Respond to the theme ‘Together’ as a jumping off point for the creation of their work.
  • Work within what technical equipment is available in the venue and keep production elements (sound, light, props) to a minimum as options for these elements are limited.
  • Keep costs low; whilst there are typically no costs for producing a Tastings showing if the artists require financial support for the work, they are encouraged to apply for a Student Theatre Grant.
  • Grant the non-exclusive rights to UMSU to use their artwork on UMSU website and its social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok.

HOW WE WILL SUPPORT YOU:

  • Connect an artist with an industry mentor if desired.
  • Cover the costs of venue hire and casual staffing and the promotion of the season and fees for a mentor if a mentorship arrangement is entered into.
  • UMSU will acknowledge the artist as the creator of the work in publications in which the works are included.
  • Provide production support and information required for artists participating in the Season.
