Volunteer with us

Become a George Paton Gallery volunteer and help us organise exhibitions, engage with visitors, and gain valuable experience in the contemporary art world. You'll also be rewarded with a Melbourne Plus badge.

ABOUT THE ROLE

George Paton Gallery Volunteers contribute to the success of our community by:

  • Providing front-of-house support, including opening and closing the gallery, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the safety of artworks.
  • Assisting with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.
  • Engaging with visitors, offering information about current exhibitions and the gallery's mission.
  • Supporting event planning and execution, such as openings, artist talks, and workshops.
  • Performing administrative tasks such as data entry, correspondence, and record-keeping.

You will receive training and be supported by the Arts Program Coordinator and the UMSU Arts Programs team. You'll also get to make new friends and learn skills in this welcoming and social environment.

ABOUT YOU

Your customer service experience, or your willingness to learn, will be greatly appreciated in the role of George Paton Gallery Volunteer. You'll be working alongside your peers to support an amazing creative community on campus. Days and hours are negotiable to suit your timetable.

So, if you:

  • Want to give back to your community.
  • Have a strong commitment to, and understanding of, the aims of George Paton Gallery.
  • Are able to work collaboratively with others.
  • Can provide intuitive customer service and think on your feet.
  • Are available for three hours a week.
