Workshops

The UMSU Sexual Harm and Response Coordinators run workshops with students that aim to educate our community on sexual and intimate partner violence, and work towards preventing this violence.

Clubs and Societies Workshops

Club and Societies workshops

What are the available workshops?

The UMSU SHRC's run two different workshops, each runs for 90 minutes and they are run on the Parkville campus.

Bystander intervention workshop

This workshop is focused on increasing the knowledge and confidence of clubs and societies members and student leaders in identifying and intervening in incidences of sexual harassment and sexual assault, including the drivers of sexual violence.

Responding to disclosures workshop

This workshop is focused on increasing student leaders' confidence and ability to respond to a disclosure of sexual harassment or assault in a trauma-informed way.

We also focus on clubs and societies leaders knowledge of, and ability to share knowledge with victim-survivors about support services both within and outside the University.

Registering for a workshop

Registration for workshops in semester 2, 2025, are now open.

To register for and attend an in-person workshop, you will first need to complete an online module.

1) Self-enroll in the online module via this link.

2) The page for registering for workshops is available within the online Canvas module after you complete the module.

3) Once you have registered for a workshop, you will receive a confirmation email with further details about the workshop location.

Compliance requirements

Who needs to complete a workshop?

For all clubs, two committee members (including at least one executive member) must complete the online module + one of our workshops each year.

Clubs and societies planning to run camps must have 1 student leader per 20 attendees complete the online module + one of our workshops.

When do workshops need to be completed by?

Depending on when a club/society AGM is held, clubs will need to complete a workshop with us by a certain date to meet CNS compliance requirements.

  • Clubs/societies who have their AGM in semester 1 need to complete training with us by the end of week 6 in semester 2.
  • Clubs/societies who have their AGM in semester 2 need to complete training with us by the end of semester 2, before the last workshops are offered late November/early December.
  • Clubs/societies holding camps must have had their leaders complete their training since their last AGM.

It is each club/societies' responsibility to ensure they meet these requirements to continue to receive UMSU funding.

Clubs compliance status is renewed each year.

This means committee/executive members need to complete the workshop they did not complete the year before, or different committee/executive members from the club/society need to complete one of our workshops.
