The UMSU Sexual Harm and Response Coordinators run workshops with students at the University on Bystander Intervention and Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Assault and Harassment.

UMSU Clubs & Societies Workshops
These workshops are designed for student leaders. They involve an online module that students need to complete before an in-person workshop. Students can choose between two different workshop streams:
Workshops are compulsory for UMSU Clubs or Societies
The following table summarises attendance requirements depending on the size of the club and whether they run camps:
Small
For clubs with less than 100 members:
1 committee member to attend.

Medium or large
For clubs with more than 100 members:
1 executive committee member and 1 general committee member.

Camps
For clubs holding camps:
1 in 20 student leaders need to have undertaken this training before their camp.

Workshop Registration
To attend an in-person workshop you will need to complete an online module. You CANNOT register for your in-person workshop until you have completed the online module.

1. Accessing and completing the online module
The online canvas module can be accessed via a self-enrolment link on this page:
2. Registering for the workshop
The link and passcode for workshop registration is available at the end of the canvas module. This page is locked until you complete the module.
Workshop dates and times will be added to the booking page once they become available.
3. Attending the workshop
Once you have registered for a workshop, you will be sent a confirmation email and further details about the location of the workshop. Workshops run for 90 minutes and are held on the Parkville campus.

We have two different workshops for you to choose from.
- Stream 1: Bystander Intervention for Sexual Violence.
- Stream 2: Responding to Disclosures for Sexual Violence.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
- When does UMSU check if Clubs and Societies are compliant?
Compliance is checked based on when most clubs or societies hold their Annual General Meetings. Most clubs run their Annual General Meetings in August/September, therefore we check compliance in December.
- Can I participate if I am not a club or society leader?
Any student at the University of Melbourne can register and participate.
- Are there any exemptions for UMSU Clubs and Societies?
If you have completed a similar training and have evidence of this you can send it through to umsu-shrc@union.unimelb.edu and request an exemption.
