Allocation Announcement Meeting*: Thursday 15 October from 1-2.30pm, Rehearsal Room
*All groups must provide a representative at this allocation meeting. Failure to attend may jeopardise your chances of being granted a space.
Please make an in-person 15-minute ‘Allocation Meeting’ time to discuss your application with UHT Artistic Director, Xanthe Beesley before you submit your form. You can book a meeting here.
Space and resources are limited. Please make sure you nominate at least three preferred seasons in your application. Only list seasons that you can definitely use. You may apply for one or two-week seasons in the Union or Guild Theatres but please note, that your preference needs to be balanced against the demand for spaces across the whole Student Theatre community.
Groups who are allocated a season in the venues will be required to complete the Student Theatre Group Induction module on Canvas, at the start of Semester to retain their allocation spot.

Selection Process
Your preference needs to be balanced against the demand for spaces across the whole Student Theatre community
- Flexibility the group may have with times, choice of venue and type of work
- Preference for groups that have missed out in previous venue allocation
- Equitable sharing of resources (theatres) amongst all groups
- Union House Theatre’s capacity to provide production support
- The vision for the work and the best venue that may suit those requirements
- Experiences of past seasons
- Submission of paperwork and discussion with UHT at Allocation meeting
- Supporting development based on the group’s demonstrated capacity
- Adherence to Community Guidelines and STG Regulations in the running of productions
Affiliated Groups who are unsuccessful at securing a space will still be eligible for some Union House Theatre support.
Theatre Hire Costs
Union House Theatre subsidised rates for affiliated theatre groups are under review in accordance with a slight increase from the University of Melbourne. Further information to be circulated for groups to assist with budgeting.
Equipment
The Union & Guild theatres are fully equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment fit for many types of productions. You will not be charged for use of any standard venue equipment. Additional equipment for specific production requirements is subject to availability and will be discussed through the UHT production process. You will not be charged for use of in-stock staging elements such as rostra and flats, nor for use of the Workshop to construct your set. Use of these resources is subject to availability and will be discussed through the UHT production process.
Casual staffing requirements and cost for staffing will be dependent on your hire requirements and schedule.
An estimate will be sent as part of the Venue Hire process and discussed further at the 6-week out Production Meeting # 1.
