Notice of proposed Regulation changes
Gender-Based Violence Declaration – Proposed amendment to the UMSU Regulations for Student Representatives to be considered at Students’ Council Meeting 11(26), 22 October 2026.
To ensure we adopt best practice to implement the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence (National Code), UMSU will now require that elected student representatives declare whether they have been investigated for an allegation of Gender-based Violence or determined to have engaged in conduct that constitutes Gender-based Violence, in the course of previous employment or otherwise in a legal process. The 2026-27 elected student representatives will be required to supply their Declarations as part of Induction. A Declaration form with detailed information about the requirement has been developed and a schedule has been appended to the UMSU Privacy Policy ensuring accountability and transparency about the handling of this sensitive and confidential information.
Consequential amendment to R2 of the UMSU Regulations for Student Representatives are now proposed to assist with implementation and enforceability of this new requirement, particularly to ensure Committee members are expressly covered. The text is presented here as notice that these amendments will be proposed at the 22 October Students’ Council meeting. The meeting time and venue are yet to be confirmed.
