Calling Student Performers

Paid performer gigs at Semester 2 OWeek 2026!

Are you a musician, band, DJ, dancer, comedian, circus performer, or creative act? UMSU is building its roster of student performers for Semester 2 O-Week 2026 - and we want to hear from you.

From small workshops and gatherings to festivals and cultural celebrations, we're looking for student performers, collectives, and creative groups to feature in our Events Program.

UMSU is home to student artists breaking out a variety of talents across the stage, canvas, in print, and on the radio. You could join the union’s legacy, whether it’s your first gig or your 100th, and showcase your work at our events.

What we are looking for

We are especially keen to hear from:

  • Student bands for UMSU events
  • DJs
  • Circus performers, e.g. acrobatics, juggling, contortion, and similar acts welcome
  • Cultural performers - musical artists, dance acts, and spoken word artists
  • Any other creative acts that would bring energy and joy to UMSU events

What to expect

  • Paid gigs - artist fees apply
  • UMSU handles production - you bring your gear, instruments, and backline if needed

We are looking for student hosts for Speed Friending at Semester 2 OWeek 2026!

Speed Friending is one of the most loved events at UMSU's O-Week - a fast-paced, fun session designed to help students meet new people, make connections, and find their people at uni. Last year it sold out almost instantly and was the most mentioned highlight in our student feedback survey. This year we are running more sessions than ever - and we need great hosts to make them shine.

What does a Speed Friending host do?

As a host, you will:

  • Welcome students and set the tone for a warm, inclusive, and fun session
  • Guide participants through a series of timed rounds - think speed dating but for friendship
  • Keep energy levels up, manage timing, and make sure no one feels left out
  • Bring your own personality and style - there is plenty of room to make it your ow

Each session runs for approximately 1 hour with around 80 participants.

When and where

  • Tuesday 21 July - Session 1 at Ida Bar, 3pm-4pm
  • Tuesday 21 July - Session 2 at A&C Level 2, time TBC
  • Wednesday 22 July - Session 3 at Ida Bar, 3pm-4pm
  • Wednesday 22 July - Session 4, time TBC

Hosts may be asked to cover one or more sessions. We will discuss availability with shortlisted applicants.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for students who are:

  • Warm, confident, and comfortable speaking in front of a crowd
  • Good at reading a room and keeping energy up
  • Reliable, punctual, and easy to work with
  • Ideally with some experience hosting, MCing, performing, or facilitating - but not essential

This is a paid opportunity. Host fees will be confirmed with shortlisted applicants.

How to apply

Tell us a bit about yourself, why you'd be a great Speed Friending host, and any relevant experience. A short video or voice note introducing yourself is welcome but not required.
